Business ecology
Business ecology describes how organisations inevitably evolve. It provides an essential framework for innovative leaders; a solid platform from which to analyse continual complex change and then organise resources to meet its challenges.
In Professor Peter Robertson's synthesis it combines insights from a number of areas:
Ethology
The 'biology of behaviour'. Aspects of human behaviour have evolved over millennia. Understanding what these are enables leaders to change what can be changed and avoid wasting resources on what can't.
Attachment Theory
People develop a sense of safety in the world - 'safe attachment' to people or things. Consistent leader behaviour creates a sense of safety for individuals, leading to trust. Trust is key to carrying people with you through complex change.
Cybernetics
Most business planning is based on the past: feedback from sales, customers, staff and financial records. Cybernetics - the study of communication and control - introduces the idea of "feed forward". Balancing these two sorts of information and the people who provide them is essential to managing the business cycle.
We also draw on Systems thinking and Chaos or Complexity theory.
Business ecology enables you to think about your organisation in a completely new way; planning and implementing new approaches in ways which are both startling and proven.
